Mechanism works

What is "Mechanism" to you? What does this mean? People often ask "whether we have a Mechanism here?" at my work. Yes, Mechanism works with an appropriate rules and inspection.

I remember I always like to think what Mechanism I can implement in my daily work. Mechanism makes process efficient and effective. Mechanism becomes part of our routine and can prevent careless miss or easy memory loss. A good example is "labeling". Although it seems it takes extra work (yes, Mechanism requires an extra work. But only beginning), once you implement the Mechanism, it makes your life effectively easier.

I keep sticky labels (sold at a $ store) and a pen in a magnetic box hung on a side of refrigerator and use them to label stored food. I write on the name of food and expiration date (or a data of made). Every time you open the fridge, without any intentions, your eyes see the label and don't forget them. "Make things visible by some tools" is the Mechanism here.

「メカニズム」とは一体なんでしょう。よく職場で「メカニズムは機能しているのか？」と聞かれます。メカニズムは正しいルールと点検で機能するのです。

そういえば、昔から私は日常生活の中に落とし込めるメカニズムを考えるのが好きでした。メカニズムによっていろいろ効率よく効果的に日常を過ごすことが出来るようになると思います。また、うっかりミスやうっかり忘れを防止することにも役立ちます。例えば、「ラベル付け」もいい例です。メカニズムが機能するためには初期の準備が面倒であるように思えます（しかし最初だけです！）が、一度導入してしまえば、本当に便利です。

我が家の冷蔵庫の側面にはマグネットで小さな箱を設置して、その中に貼ってはがせるラベル（百均で売っています）とペンを入れています。タッパに食材を入れる際に、食品の名前と消費期限（または作った日）を記入しておきます。冷蔵庫を開けるたびに、なんとなくこれが目に入るので、うっかり食材の存在を忘れてしまうことはなくなります。ここでは、「少しのツールを使って食材を見える化する」ことがメカニズムです。
